Aftercare instructions
Most permanent makeup procedures are a two-step process. Final results cannot be determined until touch-up application is completed. The touch-up is intended to fill in any discoloration caused by the healing and shedding process. We strongly suggest to all clients that they make an appointment and come in to let us see the procedure area whether or not they feel they need a touch-up.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN INFECTIONS, PIGMENT LOSS OR DISCOLORATION.
- Day 1: 3-4 hours after the procedure, you will need to cleanse the eyebrows ONCE with sterile water at room temperature with gauze/cotton balls/pads. Squeeze the excess water from gauze and wipe away all ointment and lymph fluids.
- No water, cleansers, creams, makeup or any other products on treated area for 10 days. Do not let water touch your eyebrows when showering. Avoid steam by limiting shower to 5 minutes on the first couple days.
- Do not rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking your scabs can cause scarring. If it is removed before it is ready the pigment underneath it can be pulled out.
- Avoid heavy sweating for the first 10 days.
- No facials, Botox, chemical treatments and microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
- If you have oily skin it is recommended to use a blotting paper a couple times a day, starting the next day after the procedure.
- Do not expose your healing skin to direct sun, tanning, sauna, jacuzzi, hot water, direct shower spray, chlorine pools, ocean and steam room for 3-4 weeks.
- Do not use products that contain AHA’s on the procedure area. (Example: Glycolic, Lactic Acids. Always check your product labeling as these products will fade your pigment color.
Long term care
- Use a good sunscreen after 10 days, sun exposure will fade your permanent cosmetics.
- The use of Retin-A/Tretinoin, chemical peels and acid peels or any other rapid skin exfoliation products used on the forehead area will cause the permanent makeup of the eyebrow area to fade prematurely.
Additional information
Please be aware that the result of the procedure is depending on the following: Medication and health conditions, skin conditions - i.e. oily and poor skin, very dry/flaky skin, sun damaged skin, loose or laxed skin, natural skin undertones, alcohol intake and smoking, general stress, immune system, poor diet and not following the aftercare instructions.
Antacids, thyroid and anxiety medications have been reported as interfering with permanent makeup either by affecting retention or shifting the pigment to an undesirable tone. Remember, everything we eat and drink have their own chemical structure and the electron ends that are unattached or free, may get attached to other compounds inside the body forming a new molecule that may show a different color spectrum. With that info, an educated client may have better expectations and know that she/he may need an additional one to two weeks healing for the final results to appear. The better you take care of your skin and protect it from UV rays, the better the outcome and lifespan of the permanent cosmetic procedure.
Important! Some redness/swelling/slight bruising and itching during healing process post procedure is normal. If you experience heavy itching, extreme swelling, blistering, or any other complications within the first 24 hours post-procedure, stop using your after-care product immediately. If symptoms continue, or you experience abnormal swelling/redness or shortness of breath/trouble breathing go to the closest Hospital ER immediately you may be having an allergic reaction to the pigment and/or the after care product you are using!
Healing
Week 1
- Day 1-2: Color is 20-40% than what it will look like healed. Color is more solid, strokes are more crisp. Mild swelling, light bruising, redness, and discomfort will subside.
- Day 3-7: Outer skin healing and exfoliation begins where top layers of skin shed causing excess pigment to flake away. Don’t pick at the peeling skin or scabbing. Skin starts to itch. Don’t scratch, tap lightly around the area to alleviate itching. Color may appear gray.
Week 2
- Day 8-10: Flaking is in final stages. Color may look gray, light or spotty and in some cases, may temporarily disappear only to reappear later.
- Day 11-14: Skin begins to take on normal characteristics again.
Week 3
- Inner skin healing begins. Color starts to come back after disappearing or looking gray, light and patch. Color and strokes begin to soften.
Week 4-6
- Inner skin healing reaches final stages. Color and strokes continue to soften. Time to schedule a touchup.
